You row

It's Sunday night. Eurovision night. I like the Eurovision Song Contest. Actually, let me clarify that: I like the idea of the ESC. The reality of it is just too hard to sit through. And when I say I like the idea of Euro, I don't mean I like the idea of countries coming together in peace and harmony in a gesture of unitedshipness sharing the beautiful gift of music with each other; I mean sitting down for a few hours and laughing at how absolutely rubbish the whole thing is and thinking 'surely, they must know how bad this is'. I'm reassured by Terry Wogan's commentary (yes, we get the English feed, except when SBS wants to put its own bunch of unfunny losers), which is not so much dry, as it is baked-on, which is good. I couldn't watch it without some sarcasm being thrown in. And I don't get the '-vision' part of the title. Unless it refers to vision in being crap at music and fashion and OTT cheesy in most respects. I think C & I have sat through it the last two years. This year the reception on SBS has gone all gay so she's flipping over during the ad breaks in Midsomer Murders. We're also not watching it because we both know who won. C saw it on the news and I read the highlights here. The one song I remember actually liking from Euro was the entry from (I think it was) Finland a couple of years ago, called 'The 80s coming back', which kind of sounded a bit like The Jam. And sure, their trousers were a bit too short but I overlooked that for something that had actual drums, guitars and a notable lack of a bouzouki. I'm also not watching it because I simply must get some sleep. I have half a cold (I was singing Yellow Submarine to L before but it kept coming out as Yellow Subbarine) and I should rest up if I want to be at all effective at work tomorrow. And yes, I would take a sick day (cos, y'know, I'm kinda sick) but then that would just mean twice the work to do when I get back on Tuesday cos we're cuntingly busy. This weekend has been nice though. It's the first we've had in ages when we haven't been working on the house. At last, we're getting a bit of time to sit back and just live in it. Which is nice because we have done a lovely job.
