Too much

I caught the start of Rove last night and I can't help but think that if I'd missed the start of Rove then all this unpleasantness could have been avoided. But no, I saw the start of it and he said that the Dave Matthews Band would be performing. I got into DMB about 9 years ago when I met some girls in Europe who knew this guy who was in a band who was playing support for DMB (which, if you're into that kind of thing, puts me at 3° of separation from him). They ended uo sending me a couple of Dave's CDs that absolutely rocked my world (CDs by him that is, not his personal copies of say, Best of the Eagles and Hot August Night picked up at a garage sale). So Dave was coming on and I thought that would be good but it meant that to see the band, I had to sit through about an hour of Rove. Now, while I have nothing against Rove, I'm not a big fan. He is, frankly, the new Daryl Somers and has the light-entertainment suck-up interview down pat. He's really good at it, and good luck to him but it's not my cup of tea. It also meant I had to sit through that chick who's also on the Glasshouse, Corinne, I think. This is a little harder to bear. I just think there's more to being funny that wearing a vapid expression on your face and saying everything as though you're being funny. (Hard to believe this stuff gets a good run on TV and something like Eagle and Evans suddenly disappears from screens halfway through a season, never to be seen again.) Worst of all, when Dave finally came on, the song (American Baby) bored me out of my wits. It was just really slow and lacked any kind of, y'know, bang! I've kind of sensed a bit of a slide over the years. I think he got a new producer for his ...crowded streets album and the whole sound has been too geared towards 3½ min FM radio slots ever since. Makes me wish I'd gone to bed at 9.30. Still, it's one less CD to tempt me when I'm next in Borders.
