...what's wrong with chips and kids these days

Last day at work today and it hasn't come soon enough. We've pushed our deadline back a few days to allow for the number of people who missed theirs in getting markup back to us. So the pressure's off for today. One of the team just got a gift from a client in a couple of bottles of Nepenthe wine. The Sav Blanc is going in the fridge and scheduled opening time is 3.30pm. Apparently there's an xmas CD in the building too but hopefully there'll be enough merriment without Mariah Carey screaming about Santa's ETA. I have the week off b/w xmas and New Year's and we're off to the south coast for lots of lolling around on the beach and eating fish & chips from Port Elliot Fish & Chicken shop. It's the only place I still buy fish & chips willingly. Why? Because they use real potato for their chips. Most places use reconstituted potato-pulp sticks as chips. Sorry, I still don't see why it's cheaper to pay for a bag of frozen potato pulp from McCain than it is to cut your own potatos. It's probably the peeling factor that makes people say 'Nah, too hard' but I say to those people... Actually I don't say anything to them because I prefer not to buy their deep-fried-potato-pulp sticks, so verbal contact between me and them is what you might call at a minimum. I mean, burger franchise French fries are one thing but when you go messing with chip butty filler and replacing it with mostly air, I'm sorry but it's enough to put a man off his HP sauce. My nephew once had home-made chips at my parents' place and, y'know, 'from the mouths of babes' and all that, he said "I know what I don't like about these chips... there's too much potato in them". And doesn't that just say it all about what's wrong with chips and kids these days? So, where was I? Yeah, going away and I'm yet to know whether my new (used) laptop will be up & running for remote reading/posting. It may depend of phone line availablility at the house, or whether I can get the IR thing to talk to my mobile and dial in that way. Either way, expect to see lots of pictures of sand (and maybe some chips) here in a week or two. Well, it is xmas and all that so in the spirit of giving, I have at least 10 gmail addresses to give away and well, I don't actually have that many friends. So if you want one some time in the new year, send an email to idrewthis at gmail dot com
