Things
I've uploaded my submission to 26 Things at sh1ft.org.
Have a look to see what the project is all about or just click here to go straight to my submission.
It was an interesting exercise. There were some photos I knew I'd taken that just fit some of the things. Of the others I had to take especially for the project, I found it was hard to trust my judgment as to whether the new photos were 'good photos'. Of course, that's subjective. But take clean for example. The content of the photo matches the description but it's not a very strong photo. Whereas round, I think, is a decent photo even when taken out of the context of the project. I think that's what I was aiming for: photos that were good regardless of the project. In some I think I've succeeded. In others, I know I haven't.
Anyhoo, it got me thinking, looking at things differently and, most importantly, taking photos, which was the whole point I guess. (Duh).
And a note on my photoshop techniques. I haven't really done anything you couldn't do in a darkroom. Most of the photos have the saturation slightly increased, and a little overlay trick that I do which increases the contrast. Some also have the edges slightly burned. I think there were two where I've gone a little further and introduced some blur. I don't see any of this as 'cheating'. As I say, you could do any of this in a darkroom with film prints. Also, I think when you're looking at things in an RGB colour space, you should exploit those characteristics to get the best effect with minimal alteration.
Let me know what you think (unless of course you really really hate them).
